Why Conductive Gel Is Essential

Air gaps between the treatment handpiece and the skin surface act as insulators — reflecting or scattering acoustic waves (in ultrasound and cavitation systems) or creating resistive barriers (in RF systems) that reduce energy delivery to the target tissue and can concentrate energy unevenly at the skin surface. Conductive gel eliminates these air gaps by filling the space between handpiece and skin with a medium that closely matches the acoustic impedance of soft tissue, ensuring near-complete energy transmission into the dermis and subcutaneous tissue.

For RF-based treatments, the gel’s water content provides electrical conductivity that enables uniform current distribution from the handpiece through the skin, preventing hot spots that could cause localized burns at the skin surface.
