Applied between the cryotherapy applicator and the skin surface, the membrane acts as a thermal barrier that prevents the extremely low temperatures used during fat cell destruction (-5°C to -10°C) from causing frostbite or cold injury to the epidermis and dermis while allowing therapeutic cooling to penetrate the targeted subcutaneous fat layer.
Why Anti-Freeze Membranes Are Essential
During cryolipolysis, the treatment applicator cools to temperatures between -5°C and -10°C. At these temperatures, adipocytes undergo controlled apoptosis — but the epidermis and dermis, if exposed directly to the applicator surface without a thermal buffer, are at risk of contact frostbite. Anti-freeze membranes contain active anti-freeze compounds (including cellulose hydroxyl, polyethylene glycol, temperature inhibitors, and hyaluronic acid derivatives) that lower the freezing point of the membrane’s aqueous phase, maintaining the membrane in a semi-liquid state even at sub-zero applicator temperatures. This ensures the skin surface remains protected while the cold penetrates through the membrane and subcutaneous fat tissue.
The nanostructure composition of the membrane material provides optimal thermal conductivity — transferring cold energy to the fat layer efficiently without acting as a complete insulator, which would reduce treatment efficacy. This balance between protection and conductivity is critical for achieving clinical fat reduction results while maintaining skin safety.
Usage Protocol
- Clean and thoroughly dry the treatment area before application
- Open the individual membrane package using scissors — avoid tearing to maintain membrane integrity
- Place the membrane flat over the target treatment zone, ensuring full coverage of the area that will contact the applicator
- Position the cryolipolysis applicator cup over the membrane-covered area and initiate suction
- Dispose of the membrane after each treatment session — single-use only
